Teaching Artist — The Whole Stage Summer Camp 2026

Centerstage Theatre · Federal Way, WA · July 6–10, 2026

We’re hiring teaching artists for a paid, week-long summer camp at Centerstage Theatre for grades 6-12. We partner with Federal Way Public Schools as a community-based organization to recruit and serve students; all programming is produced and managed by Centerstage Theatre.

Who’s in the room

Our students are socioeconomically diverse and primarily from Federal Way Public Schools, one of the most ethnically diverse districts in Washington State. We are actively recruiting students of color and underrepresented youth.

For many students, this may be the first time they’ve worked with a professional artist. We’re building a faculty that reflects the students in the room.

About the camp

Most theatre training goes deep in one direction. This camp goes wide on purpose.

Students rotate through voice, movement, acting, improv, stagecraft, and more, working with different teaching artists across the week. The goal is simple: build versatile, confident performers who can walk into any room and contribute.

A student might take voice in the morning, improv after lunch, and finish the week building a short piece that pulls both together.

Schedule and pay

  • $175 per AM session (2.5 hours)
  • $200 per PM session (3 hours)
  • Teaching artists may lead both sessions in a single day

Monday through Friday, July 6–10, 2026

You can propose a single session, select days, or a full-week arc, whatever fits your practice and your schedule. We’ll hold a paid onboarding call before camp week so you know the space, the students, and the team before day one. You lead the room. We handle logistics and provide on-site support so you can focus on teaching.

Disciplines we’re seeking

  • Voice and singing
  • Dance and movement
  • Acting and scene study
  • Improv and comedy
  • Stagecraft and technical theatre
  • Clowning and physical theatre

Something else entirely? Pitch it.

The education director will work with you before camp to make sure your session fits into the week. Once aligned, the classroom is yours.

What we’re looking for

We care more about what you bring to the room than what’s on your resume. We’re looking for artists who:

  • Have a practice, formal, community-based, self-taught, or some combination
  • Have worked with young people and can hold a room with structure and care
  • Show up prepared, communicate clearly, and collaborate well
  • Bring a perspective that reflects the full range of who makes and experiences theatre

Your cultural practice and lived experience are qualifications. This is a commitment to building a week where that experience is centered, not just listed.

A note on making this work for you

We know Federal Way isn’t always easy to get to. If transportation is a barrier, tell us. We want to find a way to make it work.
